The Adwa Victory Memorial Museum has officially opened its doors on February 11, 2024, commemorating Ethiopia’s historic triumph over Italian colonial forces in the Battle of Adwa. In a statement to ENA, Ibrahim Shaddad, Director-General of the African Minerals and Geosciences Centre (AMGC), emphasized the significance of the museum in perpetuating the memory of Adwa. He stated, “The Ethiopian government built the museum so that it remains in the conscience of all Africans because Adwa is not a battle in a specific region, in Ethiopia, but rather the battle of all Africans for liberation.”
The museum, situated in Addis Ababa, serves as a symbol of Ethiopia’s role in inspiring liberation movements across the African continent. It stands as a tribute to the brave men and women who fought tirelessly for freedom and justice.
During the inauguration ceremony, both Prime Minister and President Sahle-Work Zewde delivered speeches, underscoring the museum’s importance in preserving Ethiopia’s heritage and instilling values of unity and courage in future generations. Emperor Menelik II, reincarnated through holographic technology, also delivered a poignant address, highlighting the enduring significance of the Adwa victory in shaping human history and promoting Pan-Africanism.
